Therapeutic Approaches

Person Centered Counselling

Person-centred counselling is a humanistic approach founded by American psychologist Carl Rogers.  Carl Rogers believed that, given the right conditions, a person can reach their full potential.  Person-centred counselling offers an accepting, non-judgmental space, allowing you to explore, grow, and make self-actualised choices.  Person-centred therapy can be short/ long-term work.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a type of therapy that explores thoughts, feelings, and behaviours (cycles and patterns), and helps to change some of these to improve your wellbeing.

CBT focuses on current feelings and behaviours, before making links to your past. CBT may include more practical/ homework approaches to therapy.  CBT focuses on equipping you with the tools that are right for you; to make progress with personal challenges; and improve your emotional and overall wellbeing. CBT is usually short-term/ time-focused work.

Psychodynamic Approaches

A psychodynamic approach aims to help you understand how your current feelings and behaviours may be influenced by past experiences, your unconscious mind, and your reactions.

Psychodynamic approaches can help you to understand your emotions in the present and why you may have certain responses in a present situation or relationship. A core psychodynamic goal is understanding the root of a problem so that you can achieve long-term positive change. Psychodynamic therapy is usually long-term work (which can be discussed further with CEAACC or your therapist).
